Be Ready to React: Pickleball Body Positioning

Mastering body positioning is key to Pickleball success. Here's how to get your body primed for powerful shots:

Ready Position: This is your go-to stance between shots. It should provide flexibility and balance for quick reactions. Keep your knees slightly bent, feet shoulder-width apart, and your paddle held in front of you, ready to move.

Split Step: This is a small hop you make just before your opponent strikes the ball. It keeps you light on your feet and ready to react in any direction. Aim to split step just as your opponent makes contact with the ball.

Hitting a Basic Forehand:

  1. Turn and Prepare: After the split step, turn towards the oncoming ball. Take your paddle back as you move forward with a Continental grip.
  2. Contact Point: Judge your distance and reach the ball comfortably at its peak. This is your "contact point" – not too close, but directly in front of your body.
  3. Strike and Recover: Hit the ball with the desired direction and power. Then, immediately return to the ready position for the next shot.

Tips for Playing to Win:

  • Be Alert: Focus on the ball and anticipate its movement to reach it in time for a good return.
  • Stay Balanced: Maintain a low center of gravity for stability during shots.
  • Utilize the Split Step: This move helps you reach the ball quickly and explosively.
  • Paddle Angle and Direction: Adjust your paddle angle and swing power to achieve the best possible return shot.

By mastering these techniques, you'll be ready to react quickly and dominate the court!
